Here’s what the MBTA used to look like

From horsecars to elevated lines, the MBTA has come a long way.

Believe it or not, Boston’s public transportation system wasn’t always the state-of-the-art, well-funded, efficient system it is today (or something like that … ).

The T has gone through many incarnations, from horsecars in the 19th century, to cable and electric cars, to elevated railway lines (or the “El’’), to the modern-day MBTA, which formed in 1964.
