This feminist marathoner didn’t hide her period for 26.2 miles

Harvard Business School grad Kiran Gandhi ran the London Marathon without a tampon to raise awareness about ‘period-shaming.’

As if running the London Marathon wasn’t going to be difficult enough, Kiran Gandhi got her period the night before.

With the threat of cramps, back pain, and bleeding looming over her head, she made a bold decision — to run without a tampon.

Gandhi, 26, is a Harvard Business School graduate and accomplished drummer who’s worked with artists like M.I.A and Thievery Corporation. A self-proclaimed feminist, Gandhi decided to seize the opportunity before her as a means to raise awareness around women’s menstruation.

On her blog she explained, “I ran with blood dripping down my legs for sisters who don’t have access to tampons and sisters who, despite cramping and pain, hide it away and pretend like it doesn’t exist. I ran to say, it does exist, and we overcome it every day.’’

This is how awesome it is to be a Boston sports fan:
