It breaks more than a century of tradition.

For the first time, women are being welcomed into the Fox Club, one of Harvard’s exclusive all-male social clubs, reports The Boston Globe.

“This has been a long decision-making process,’’ Fox Club president Daniel Skarzynski told the Globe. “The decision to take concrete action was formalized by a series of undergraduate votes earlier this academic year.’’

The issue has been debated for decades. Another such club, the Spee Club, announced plans in September to invite female students to join, but would not comment on whether any women have been accepted into the club yet, reports the Globe. The Fox Club has admitted nine female members, said Skarzynski.

The club’s alumni includes Bill Gates, former Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer, and T.S. Eliot.
