Hingham officer indicted for claiming false injuries

A Hingham police officer who allegedly lied about injuries he said he sustained while on the job was indicted Wednesday, according to a release from District Attorney Tim Cruz’s office.

Officer Kris Phillips, 52, of Hingham, claimed he was struck by a vehicle that was backing out of a spot while on foot patrol at the Hingham Shipyard on July 17, said Cruz’s office.

Through an investigation conducted by the Hingham Police Department it was discovered that Phillips fabricated the story about being struck by the vehicle, according to the statement.

He was indicted on charges of misleading responding officers, filing false reports of injuries to fraudulently receive health insurance coverage, and perjury, said the release.

No information about his lawyer was available.
