A 65-year-old grandmother shot the man she says tried to rob her

“I’m not happy about it.’’

Police say a 65-year-old woman shot a man who she said tried to rob her Monday night, reports WBZ.

The Manchester, N.H. grandmother, who did not wish to be identified, said the man followed her with his car into the parking lot of her apartment complex and parked near her. As she walked to her building, he followed her on foot and then blocked her path and reached out to grab her, she told WBZ.

The woman pulled a handgun from her pocket and shot the man in the chest. She holds a valid concealed carry gun permit, reports WBZ.

“I’m not happy about it,’’ the woman told WBZ. “Hope I never have to do it again, you know. But if I was in a situation like that I would imagine I would do it again.’’

She shot Michael Bontaites, 23, of Manchester. Bontaites was charged with attempted robbery and held on $5,000 bail. He was arraigned Tuesday at Elliot Hospital, where he was treated for the gunshot wound.
