The lives of 3 firefighters were saved in a Saugus blaze

Firefighters called to the scene of a 3-alarm house fire at a home on Essex Street in Saugus Wednesday morning wound up saving each other.

All residents of the home got out safely, according to WCVB-TV. Firefighters from several towns responded to the blaze. According to CBS Boston, three firefighters called mayday and were pulled safely from the burning building. The firefighters had run out of air, Saugus Fire Chief Michael Newbury told reporters at the scene.

According to WBZ’s Carl Stevens, Newbury said, “The firefighters on scene saved the lives of my men.’’

Traffic on Route 1 is being affected in the area of the fire.
