Two boys fell through thin ice on a Brockton pond while playing Saturday, leaving one hospitalized in critical condition, according to The Boston Globe.
The boys, ages 9 and 12, were playing with three other friends when they walked onto the ice and fell into the pond, the Globe reported. Two of the friends ran for help, flagging down a car and asking the driver to call 911, while one stayed by the friends.
“I was crying and I told two men at the school that my friends were drowning, but they didn’t believe me,’’ Yandell Benit, 11, told the Globe. “So then I stopped a car. I was waving my hands, and I was in the street until a car turned around.’’
Brockton police and firefighters responded to the scene. The two boys were taken to Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital for evaluation, and the 12-year-old was later transported to a Boston hospital for further treatment. He remained in critical condition as of Saturday night, the Globe reported.
