‘American Pie’ singer Don McLean charged with domestic violence assault

Don McLean, famous for his 1971 hit song “American Pie,’’ was arrested early Monday morning and charged with domestic violence assault, according to the Penobscot Bay Pilot.

McLean was arrested after police responded to a 911 call from his Camden, Maine residence, according to the Pilot.

He posted $10,000 bail and was released from jail, according to the report.

McLean rose to fame as the result of “American Pie,’’ the 8-and-a-half minute song he wrote about the 1959 plane crash that killed rock-and-roll legend Buddy Holly.

Now 70, McLean lives on a 300-acre estate with his wife and their two children, according to his website.
