Baby born on Storrow Drive after traffic jam blocks ramp

After a car caught fire and caused a traffic jam on Storrow Drive late Monday night, a couple welcomed their new baby into the world on the highway, according to The Boston Globe.

Police responded to a report of a car fire on I-93 south around 11:15 p.m. and closed the Storrow Drive off-ramp while firefighters worked to control the blaze. As police started to slowly move traffic again, a man approached one of the troopers and told him that his wife was in labor, the Globe reported.

Authorities called an ambulance to rush the woman to Mass General Hospital with the father in pursuit, but there wasn’t enough time. The man joined his wife in the ambulance, where she gave birth before the three were taken to the hospital.
