A Cambridge police officer has been placed on paid administrative leave while the department investigates a hit-and-run crash.

On Sunday at 7:49 p.m., a bicyclist was struck outside of Kendall Square near the intersection of Broadway and Portland Street, Cambridge police spokesman Jeremy Warnick told The driver fled the scene, and the bicyclist was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that weren’t considered to be life-threatening, he said.

Officials believe the driver of the vehicle was an off-duty Cambridge police officer, Warnick said. The Cambridge Police Department, the Middlesex District Attorney’s office, and Massachusetts State Police are continuing to investigate the incident and will determine whether or not to bring charges against the officer, who police have not named.
