Wayland police officer struck, dragged by car while working construction detail

A Wayland police officer was struck and dragged by a car Tuesday afternoon while working a road construction detail on Route 30.

Wayland police said Sgt. Jennifer Ordway was speaking with a driver through the window of his car when the driver moved forward, dragging the officer between five and 15 feet before the car was stopped by a second officer at the scene.

Police said William Prewitt, 20, of Concord, has been charged with operating to endanger and failure to stop for police. He was released at the scene and will be summoned to Framingham District Court.

Ordway was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
