A fatal shooting left one man dead and another injured early Saturday morning in Lawrence, according to the Essex County District Attorney’s office.
Police responded to a report of possible shots fired outside of Sam’s Food Store on Broadway at 2:43 a.m. and dispersed a crowd, authorities said. At the time, they did not see evidence confirming the reports of gunfire, according to the DA’s office.
Shortly after, a 23-year-old man who was suffering from gunshot wounds was brought to Lawrence General Hospital by his friends, authorities said. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the DA’s office.
A second victim, who had sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening, was brought to the hospital later, authorities said. Neither of the victims’ identities have been released.
No arrests had been made as of Sunday afternoon, according to the DA’s office. The incident remains under investigation, authorities said.
