1 dead in Norwood after early morning shooting

Norwood police are searching for a suspect after a 28-year-old man was shot and killed early Monday morning, according to Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey’s office.

Norwood police responded to a report of either fireworks or gunshots at the Stonebridge apartment complex on Dean Street just before 2 a.m., according to the DA’s office. Police discovered an injured man who had been shot. The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to Norwood Hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to a statement from Norwood police.

“This does not appear to be a random shooting,’’ said Norwood police in the statement.

The DA’s office and Norwood Police Chief William Brooks are calling the shooting an isolated incident and “not cause for personal alarm.’’

Police say the victim lived with family in the apartment complex.

The last homicide in Norwood was the 2008 beating death of Scott Haynes, which ended in the manslaughter conviction of Kevin Schultz in 2010, according to the DA’s office.

The investigation is ongoing, according to the DA’s office.
