A man was shot and killed outside a home in Taunton Thursday morning, The Boston Globe reports.
The victim, a 23-year-old man whose last known address was in Somerville, was taken to Morton Hospital, where he later died, authorities told the Globe. His name has not been released. The shooting took place at 9 Fifth Ave., according to the Globe.
State police are helping to search for the shooter.
“We have State Police patrols, K9 units and detectives assisting Taunton Police following a shooting this morning and are helping conduct a search for a suspect and evidence,” state police spokesman David Procopio said in an email to Boston.com.
According to a WPRI.com report, students at Hopewell Elementary School are in a “secure and hold” status during the search, which means no one is allowed to enter or exit the school. Taunton Superintendent Julie Hackett sent a message to parents explaining the situation, according to the report.
Bristol Community College has asked students to shelter in place while police search.
