5-year-old boy missing in New Bedford has been found

Police say the boy was dropped off at a closed school Friday morning.

Massachusetts State Police say the 5-year-old New Bedford boy who went missing Friday morning has been found.

“The young boy who was the subject of a search in New Bedford has been located and is safe,” State police said in a statement.

The child was dropped off at Hathaway Elementary School Friday morning, but the school was closed, according to police.  A witness told police the boy looked visibly upset at the entrance of the school.

The boy, who lives three or flour blocks from the school, walked home, New Bedford police told Boston.com. He is now home with his family, police said.

State and local police searched for the boy and posted a description of him, asking the public to call with any information.
