Police are investigating a fall that killed a truck driver Tuesday night in Haverhill, according to Massachusetts State Police.
Police received a call around 6:15 p.m. from a Help Van driver requesting an ambulance for an unresponsive man on I-495 northbound.
After a preliminary investigation, police believe the 43-year-old truck driver from Maine pulled over into the breakdown lane after having difficulty with his load. While attempting to adjust the load, police said the driver fell and hit his head.
The driver of the Help Van who requested the ambulance told police he had stopped earlier in the Andover section of I-495 to assist the same driver with fixing his load. He performed CPR on the man until Haverhill emergency personnel arrived and transported him to Lawrence General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The man’s identity has not been released.
