Police say a truck driver from Maine died after falling and hitting his head in the breakdown lane of I-495 on Tuesday night.
The 43-year-old man was driving northbound in Haverhill when he pulled over to adjust his load, according to Massachusetts State Police. While working on the load, he fell and struck his head. A Help Van driver discovered the man at 6:15 p.m. and called an ambulance for an “unresponsive” truck driver. The Help Van driver performed CPR until the Haverhill EMS arrived.
The driver of the Help Van said it was the second time he had assisted the man that night. Earlier, the truck driver had stopped on 495 in Andover to adjust his load as well.
The man was taken to Lawrence General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The man’s name is being withheld pending notification of his family.
Police are investigating the incident.
