Man arrested after allegedly exposing himself inside elementary school

Officials said no children witnessed the incident.

A Pepperell man was arrested Friday after police say he exposed himself while inside an elementary school.

Officers responded responded to Varnum Brook Elementary School after receiving a report that a man walked into the school just before 10:30 a.m.  A school employee said the man, later identified as 54-year-old Charles Jestings, exposed himself while speaking with a secretary.

The incident was not witnessed by any children at the school, according to police and school officials.

Police said Jestings was immediately escorted outside by school employees where he was met by police and arrested.

He has been charged with open and gross lewdness.

“It appears that the school department’s established building access and security procedures work as designed, sending the individual directly to the front desk and preventing access to any students,” Joan Landers, superintendent of the North Middlesex Regional School District, said in a statement. “We want to ensure parents and the community that at no time were students in any danger and that our staff responded quickly and effectively, in conjunction with the Pepperell Police Department, to remove this individual from school property.”
