Police make arrest after teen girls report being accosted near school

Worcester police have made an arrest one day after three teenage girls reported being accosted as they separately walked to school.

On Wednesday, the teens told police they were approached by a man on Apricot Street. One teen reported being grabbed her from behind by the man. Another said she was stopped by the man who said, “You’re coming with me,” according to police.

On Thursday morning, with extra police patrols in the area, officers said they observed a man walking who matching the suspect’s description. The man, identified by police as Fredy Cruz, 23, of Worcester, agreed to accompany officers to police headquarters. Police said Cruz acknowledged that he was involved in the incidents on Apricot Street.

Police said Cruz has been charged with three counts of kidnapping, three counts of assault and battery, and three counts of enticing a child under 16.
