Signal problem at South Station creates delays, cancellations for Amtrak, commuter rail

A signal problem at South Station caused delays and cancellations to Amtrak and commuter rail service Sunday.

Around 7:30 a.m., Amtrak’s dispatching system out of South Station went down, according to commuter rail spokesman Mac Daniel. Workers had to operate the switches manually, which caused delays from 15 minutes to nearly an hour at the station. The delays lasted through the morning and continued into early afternoon.

The signal issue was fixed just before 2 p.m., but service continued to experience delays, Daniel said.

Daniel advised passengers to check delays on Twitter @MBTA_CR.
