Endicott College sophomore dies in crash

BEVERLY, Mass. (AP) — Police have identified a man who died and another who was injured in an overnight car crash near Endicott College.

Police say the car’s passenger was 19-year-old Craig Sampson, of Williston, Vermont. Sampson was taken to Beverly Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was a sophomore at the college.

The driver was identified as 20-year-old Joseph Castano, also of Willison. He is at Lahey Hospital in Burlington with severe injuries.

Police say the vehicle struck a telephone poll at about 12:15 a.m. Saturday. Police believe speed and alcohol may have been factors in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
