WALPOLE, Mass. (AP) — Two police officers were hospitalized over the weekend after they were struck by a loose fire hose while responding to a blaze in eastern Massachusetts.
Police say officers Paul Lagoa and Mike Benner were dispatched to the scene of a fire on Norton Avenue in Walpole around 1:15 p.m. Sunday.
Police Chief John Carmichael says the officers were injured after the hose got stuck on a fire engine as it was being unrolled and then took out their legs.
Lagoa, who landed on his head, was airlifted to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He was treated for a concussion, back injury and separated shoulder. Benner suffered injuries to both arms.
Both Lagoa and Benner were released and are home recovering.
No other injuries were reported.
