Man, cat rescued from burning building in Lynn

A man and his cat were rescued from a burning building Sunday night in Lynn.

Firefighters were called to the two-alarm blaze at an apartment building at 11:30 p.m. The fire began on the first floor of the eight-unit, three-story building.

A man living on the third floor tried to exit using the stairway, but it was filled with smoke.

“We used an aerial ladder to take him out the window,” said Lynn Fire Chief James McDonald.

The man’s cat was rescued too, reports The Boston Globe.

The fire began on the first floor and spread up the stairwell and along the outside wall, said McDonald.

McDonald said all residents of the building made it out safely, but a police officer and firefighter were both injured. The officer suffered from smoke inhalation and the firefighter received a cut on his head. Both were treated and released, McDonald said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
