Police respond to shooting at Rowley shopping plaza

ROWLEY, Mass. (AP) — Police are searching for a suspect who shot one teen and fired at another in the same wooded area behind a Rowley shopping center.

Officers were dispatched to the scene of a shopping plaza on Newburyport Turnpike after receiving reports of shots fired around 5:15 p.m. Sunday.

As police searched the area, an 18-year-old man emerged and said he had been shot in the leg. The victim was treated at a hospital and released.

Shortly after, another teen walked into the Rowley police station and told investigators that he had been shot at in the same area.

Chief Scott Dumas said police don’t believe that the shootings were random. Investigators believe the shooter knew the teen that was wounded.

The investigation is ongoing.
