A new memorial honoring fallen Massachusetts service members now stands in the Seaport District.

Massachusetts Fallen Heroes unveiled the 50-foot memorial in a ceremony Friday morning. The memorial was created “to honor the sons and daughters of the Commonwealth who gave their lives since September 11, 2001 in service to the United States in the Global War on Terrorism,” according to the organization.

The memorial at 85 Northern Ave is a five-sided translucent column that will be illuminated internally at night. Massachusetts Fallen Heroes said each side signifies one of the five branches of service.
