Boston to host vigil Monday for Orlando shooting victims outside City Hall

At least three other vigils have been planned for Sunday.

The city of Boston will hold a vigil Monday evening for the victims of the mass shooting Sunday morning in Orlando, Mayor Marty Walsh announced Sunday.

Walsh said the vigil is scheduled for 6 p.m. at City Hall Plaza. He asked Boston residents to join him.

Gov. Charlie Baker will attend the vigil, according to a schedule of events.

At least 50 people were killed and over 50 more were hospitalized after a gunman opened fire inside an Orlando nightclub shortly before it closed early Sunday morning. It was the worst mass shooting in United States history.

Multiple other vigils across Boston for the Orlando shooting victims have also been planned for Sunday. One vigil is scheduled at 5 p.m. at the Soldier’s Monument in Jamaica Plain. At 6 p.m. on the Boston Common, another vigil is set to take place near the Parkman Bandstand. And a third vigil outside Trinity Church on Copley Square will be held at 8 p.m.

The victims of the shooting, which took place at a gay nightclub, are also set to be honored during a number of Boston Pride block parties on Sunday with a moment of silence. Five block parties are scheduled in Boston to celebrate the finale of the city’s Pride Parade and Festival this weekend.
