Detective Angel Barbosa was off-duty and enjoying time with his family at a country club when a near-tragedy unfolded before him on Memorial Day weekend.
Barbosa, a detective with the Cambridge Police Department, sprung into action when he realized that a 6-year-old girl was drowning at the Ferncroft Country Club in Middleton.
He performed CPR on the child, who was showing “no signs of life,” according to Cambridge police.
“He continued to perform CPR until Middleton Fire and Police arrived on scene,” said police. “By the time they arrived, the child had a pulse and respirations.”
The child was taken to Salem Children’s Hospital and then to Massachusetts General Hospital. That night, doctors told Barbosa and the Cambridge police that the girl would be fine.
Barbosa was recognized by the Middleton Police and Fire Department for his life-saving actions. He was also reunited with the girl and her family.
