The Cambridge resident recounted the ordeal on his Facebook page on June 25, writing, “Early this week I was hit by a van while out for a run and suffered a fractured skull, dislocated and broken arm … it appears I will have some, if not total deafness in my right ear.”

He says he was treated at Massachusetts General Hospital before his parents took him back to his hometown of Buffalo, N.Y. to recover. He said he will not be able to work for a while and thanked fans for their messages.

Police said Stevens was wearing headphones while jogging when he was struck, reports The Boston Globe. The driver was not charged because the accident did not happen in a crosswalk and a witness said the van was not speeding, police told the Globe.

Stevens appeared on season 3 of “American Idol.” He sings in the John Stevens Band and the Beantown Swing Orchestra.
