A homeless man crashed a stolen ambulance into a Cambridge police cruiser Tuesday evening, according to Cambridge police spokesman Jeremy Warnick.
Warnick said the “mentally disturbed” man, who was known to police, was being treated at a local hospital when he left and entered a Pro Ambulance parked outside. The man then drove the ambulance away from the hospital before officers caught up with him at Third and Gore streets.
To avoid police, the man allegedly crashed the ambulance into one of the responding officer’s cruisers. Warnick said there were no reported injuries. There was minor damage caused to the cruiser, he said.
The man, later identified as Everett Goss, 48, of Cambridge, was arrested and charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and operating without a license. He was in police custody as of Tuesday evening, Warnick said.
