Police say a man drove 105 mph in a construction zone while drunk and naked
A 24-year-old Chicopee man was arrested Tuesday after police say he drove at speeds of up to 105 mph in a construction zone on Interstate 91 in Whately while drunk and naked.
Alexander Shanwenda was booked for the following offenses: operating under the influence of liquor, operating to endanger, a marked lanes violation, and speeding in a construction zone, according to a Massachusetts State Police release.
Police said after reports of a black pickup truck driving erratically and speeding, a trooper spotted the vehicle. The trooper then saw the pickup change lanes without signaling, almost collide with a box truck, and accelerate up to 105 mph in the 45 mph construction zone, according to police.
Upon approaching the vehicle after stopping it, the trooper noticed that Shanwenda was “wearing no clothes” but had covered himself by placing a pair of pants over his lap, police said. After putting on pants, Shanwenda failed several field sobriety tests, according to police. Police also said troopers found several bottles of beer in the vehicle, both full and empty.
Shanwenda was released on personal recognizance and will be arraigned in Holyoke District Court.
