Maine driver rescued from burning car by firefighters, Samaritans

LIMINGTON, Maine (AP) — A group of courageous Maine firefighters and good Samaritans are being praised for rescuing a woman from a burning car.

WCSH-TV reports the York County Sheriff’s office responded to a single-vehicle crash on state Route 25 in Limington around noon Monday. Police say 63-year-old Janet Heggeman, of Standish, lost control of her vehicle, veered off the road and crashed head-on into a tree.

According to police, Heggeman became trapped in her car when the tree above her snapped and her car caught on fire. Police say three good Samaritans and a crew from the Cornish Fire Department were able to rescue Heggeman before her car was completely engulfed by flames.
