Six puppies were tied up in a grain bag and left for dead in the Blackstone River in Uxbridge Sunday, and police are searching for the “low life’’ who abandonded the young dogs.

A kayaker on the river found the bag of puppies after they were dumped there near River Road, Uxbridge police said in a Facebook post. An Uxbridge Animal Control officer then responded to the scene, and took possession of the dogs.

“They are all doing well, considering the circumstances, and we believe they will all survive,’’ police said. “The puppies are currently being kept together, and are being cared for by a professional until they are able to be adopted.’’
