There was an awkward silence on the high school soccer field Monday night in East Bridgewater when the sound system failed and the national anthem did not play.
Players from rival teams Rockland High School and East Bridgewater High School stood waiting. Then one person started singing. And players on both teams — and people on the sidelines — slowly joined in, according to NBC Boston.
“The best part about it was that it was really organic, there was no contrived sort of plan,” East Bridgewater coach Brendon Boates told the station. “It is a bit of a rivalry between two schools but it was nice to see them sort of unite for a common cause.”
