Here are the top women-led companies in Massachusetts

On Friday, the Commonwealth Institute and the Globe Magazine released a list of the 100 top women-led businesses in Massachusetts.

The highest ranked organization is Brigham and Women’s Health Care, now Brigham Health. The hospital, which is one of the state’s premier hospitals, according to U.S. News and World Report, is led by President Elizabeth G. Nabel.

Thirteen other health care companies appear on the list, including the Boston Medical Center Health System and Boston Children’s Hospital, ranked second and third, respectively.

In fourth place is the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Retail company J.Jill nabbed the fifth spot.


“We look at revenue or operating budget and other variables, including number of full-time employees in the state, workplace and management diversity, and innovative projects,” Globe Magazine (which shares ownership with wrote regarding how the list is created. “We then rank organizations according to our own formula. We consider both for-profit and nonprofit organizations.”
