Police say dangerous pit bull on the loose located in Amesbury

AMESBURY, Mass. (AP) — A dangerous dog that escaped from a Massachusetts home after attacking a police officer has been found.

Amesbury police announced on Facebook on Monday morning that the pit bull had been located.

Sgt. Michael Purvis say the dog attempted to bite Sgt. Lauren Tirone around 5:30 a.m. Sunday as she responded to a medical call.

Another officer shot the dog with a stun gun, but it ran away. Police issued a shelter-in-place order for several hours after the dog escaped saying it was violent and extremely aggressive.

Purvis says Tirone did not require medical attention. He says police do not plan to file charges against the dog’s owner.
