FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts woman has been charged with beating a cab driver with a curtain rod because he wanted to keep the meter running and hold on to her belongings until she paid.
The MetroWest Daily News reports 34-year-old Tameka Gayle was released Monday after pleading not guilty to assault and battery.
Gayle hired the cab to take her to a new apartment in Framingham on Nov. 3.
Prosecutors say Gayle got angry when the driver said he would keep the meter running and hold on to her belongings after she said she had to go inside to get the $6 fare.
Authorities say she punched the driver and hit him in the head with the wooden curtain rod.
Gayle’s lawyer says she was defending herself from an aggressive driver.
