Strong winds whipped through Boston and the surrounding areas Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, pulling down many remaining leaves and damaging at least one notable tree: the Christmas tree in Copley Square.

While the tree did not break, the wind completely bent the top of the tree and sent leaves and decorations all to one side.

A City Hall official said that the Parks Department and Department of Public Works are looking into tree repair solutions.

The tree was lit in a Nov. 27 ceremony featuring cookie decorating, an appearance by Santa Claus, and a performance by the Boston Pops Brass Quintet.
