Red Line car derailed, causing smoke and broken windows

At least three windows on a Red Line subway car shattered, and plumes of smoke were sent into Andrew Station after a train motor failed Wednesday morning, leading to the closure of the station and the deployment of shuttle buses between Dorchester and South Boston, T officials said.

The buses were still ferrying passengers between JFK/UMass Station and Broadway Station late Wednesday afternoon.

The last car of a six-car train derailed as it headed north approaching Andrew Station around 9:20 a.m., the MBTA said in a statement.
