Maine officials are urging driver’s to remember the state’s Move Over Law after a trooper’s close call during a traffic stop was caught on video.
The Maine Bureau of Highway Safety shared a dashcam video Monday that shows a Maine state trooper conducting a stop. In the video, the trooper returns to his cruiser after speaking with the driver he pulled over, and seconds later a box truck sideswipes the vehicle and the place the officer had been standing moments before.
The safety agency said the driver of the box truck told police he was looking at his phone.
“This was a little too close for comfort,” state police said, sharing the video. “Only a few seconds from being a tragedy. Please put your devices down and ‘Move Over’.”
