A young bear that was spotted in Newton was tranquilized and caught by police on Wednesday.
“Due to the populated location of the bear, MEP officers specially trained in the chemical immobilization of animals responded,” state environmental police said. “With the assistance of the Newton Police Department, the bear was successfully immobilized.”
Police said, since the bear was young, it was transported to Tufts Wildlife Clinic for additional evaluation.
Newton police warned earlier in the day that a black bear had been seen up in a tree near Centre Street the day before.
“Sometime during the night, the bear made its way down the tree and moved on,” the department said. “If seen in the area, please don’t approach it!”
