A Boston firefighter who was charged earlier this week with child rape and assault and battery has died, according to the Suffolk district attorney’s office.

Samuel Perez Rosado, 38, of West Roxbury, died at Massachusetts General Hospital Friday morning and his death “is currently being investigated as a nonhomicide,’’ said Jake Wark, a spokesman for the district attorney’s office.

Rosado’s death comes after he was found early Wednesday in his cell at Suffolk County Jail in “medical distress,’’ according to the Suffolk County sheriff’s office. Corrections officers performed CPR on him after an officer found him around 2 a.m. Rosado was then rushed into “emergency medical care,’’ according to the sheriff’s office.
