Elderly man killed in hit-and-run crash in Allston; driver located

An 80-year-old man was using a crosswalk on a busy thoroughfare in Allston Wednesday when he was fatally struck by a Jeep in a hit-and-run crash. Police quickly located the driver in Brighton, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 12:50 p.m. on Commonwealth Avenue near the Griggs Street MBTA station, according to Boston police.

Commissioner William B. Evans told reporters at the scene that investigators determined the man was in a crosswalk when he was hit. He was later pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center.
