WESTFORD, Mass. (AP) — All lanes of a major Massachusetts artery are shuttered due to a transformer fire.
State police say the north and southbound sides of Interstate 495 in Westford are shut down due to a transformer fire spreading to electrical wire on the highway. No injuries are reported.
The Westford Fire Department and National Grid are all responding. State police say drivers should seek alternative routes due to backed up traffic and closures.
Fire crews will determine if poles and wires will need replacing. There is no further information on what started the fire. Westford is just over 40 miles northwest of Boston.
