SHEFFIELD, Vt. (AP) — Vermont State Police say heavy rain, speed and alcohol all likely played a role in a fatal crash on Interstate 91 in Sheffield.
Troopers say 24-year-old Justin Darling, of Barton, was ejected early Sunday when his pickup left the highway, hit wire guardrails, and traveled down an embankment into trees.
Troopers say his passenger survived and attempted to flag down passing motorists.
Troopers say the crash happened at about 1 a.m. Sunday. Investigators said a thunderstorm caused heavy rain and pooling water at the time of the crash.
