Toddler hospitalized after injury at Cape Cod park

The girl was brought to a Rhode Island hospital, police said.

A Bourne playground closed Tuesday afternoon after a toddler was hospitalized upon injuring her toe at the Buzzards Bay Park, police said.

The girl, whose identity has not been released, was brought to a Rhode Island hospital, according to Bourne police Det. Sgt. John Stowe.

He was not aware of her condition Wednesday morning and could not confirm the seriousness of the injury, he said in a phone interview.

Authorities and firefighters were called to the Main Street “splash pad” — or water playground — around 1:15 p.m. for a report of a toddler injured on playground equipment, Stowe said.

“The town immediately closed the splash pad as they investigated the incident,” he said.

WHDH reported Tuesday the splash pad was closed until further notice.

Stowe said town officials are assessing playground equipment in the meantime.
