A train engineer was injured in Worcester Saturday morning after several freight cars rammed into an overpass and rolled off the tracks, police said.

The CSX train was traveling south on the Providence and Worcester tracks when 15 of its cars derailed at 7:45 a.m. while going under the Cambridge Street bridge, Worcester Deputy Fire Chief Martin Dyer said.

“We believe there were double-stacked box cars that were on an elevated track rather than the lower track, and it did not clear the bridge,’’ Dyer said.
