Authorities are calling on the public to help them locate a man in connection to the stabbing death of Allan Monteiro Sr., 47, of New Bedford, who was found deceased early Thursday morning.

Police are looking for 51-year-old James Andrews, of New Bedford, the Bristol District Attorney’s office said in a statement.

Police responded to an apartment at 345 Cottage St. in New Bedford around 5:45 a.m. after a 911 call reported a stabbing, the statement said. When first responders arrived on scene, Monteiro was already dead.

Andrews is believed to be in the New Bedford area, according to authorities.

“Mr. Andrews has a history of violence and is considered dangerous,” the statement said. “The public should not approach him or attempt to subdue him if he is seen.”
