Crash between a sedan and tractor-trailer leaves Massachusetts woman dead

The incident remains under investigation by state police.

A Monday morning crash in Sturbridge has left a Massachusetts woman dead after her sedan collided with a tractor-trailer being driven by a New Hampshire man, according to Massachusetts State Police.

The crash occurred around 7:20 a.m. on Route 49 at the intersection with Putnam Road, police said. The victim, a 50-year-old Spencer woman, was driving a 2008 Buick LaCrosse westbound on Putnam when she came to a stop at the intersection, then pulled out and attempted to go southbound on Route 49 — directly in front of the tractor-trailer car carrier, according to police.

The identity of the woman has not been released.

She was determined deceased at the scene, police said. The truck’s driver, a 54-year-old Manchester man, sustained nonlife-threatening injuries in the crash and was transported to Harrington Hospital by Sturbridge EMS.

The incident remains under investigation, according to police.
