Three men were shot, one fatally, in Mattapan Tuesday morning, Boston police said.
The shooting happened around 9:30 a.m. near 27 Deering Road — a residential street located off of Blue Hill Avenue one block away from the Area B-3 police station — Boston Police Commissioner William Gross said at a press conference.
All men are in their late 20s and were believed to be in a sedan when shots were fired, according to Gross.
“At this time it doesn’t appear to be random,” he said. “As well, we’re asking for everybody’s help on this as we usually do.”
The two men injured in the shooting were brought to local hospitals and are expected to survive, Gross said.
Tuesday’s shooting came days after a shooting killed a Boston Public Works employee in his Mattapan home Saturday night.
Gross said there have been 33 homicides and 91 nonfatal shootings in the city this year. There were 34 homicides and 131 nonfatal shootings this time last year, he said.
“Folks, the cold hard facts is there are too many guns on the streets,” Gross said.
People with information about Tuesday’s shooting — an active police investigation — should call the police department’s homicide unit at 617-343-4470 or text 1-800-494-TIPS, he said.
