A Mattapan man was arrested Wednesday night after a man was shot in a park behind the Massachusetts Avenue MBTA station in Boston, authorities said.

Lushaun Gay, 26, will be arraigned in Roxbury District Court Thursday, according to Jake Wark, a spokesman for the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office.

Massachusetts State Police, Boston police, and MBTA Transit Police responded to a shooting in the Southwest Corridor Park, located behind the station, sometime before 10 p.m. Wednesday, according to a state police press release.

A 34 year-old man had been shot multiple times and was taken to a Boston hospital in serious condition, police said.

Boston police arrested Gay in a courtyard near Columbus Avenue and Dilworth Street where he was found hiding under a stairwell with a backpack that contained a loaded Jimenez Arms 9 mm pistol, the release said.

Authorities collected evidence both at the shooting scene and from where they found Gay, and reviewed surveillance video of the incident.

The victim remained hospitalized Thursday morning but is expected to survive, according to Wark.
